Intel shortages ending? , PC exes say “They aren’t going anywhere”

According to the last update by Intel, the 14nm CPU shortage was supposed to be ending at the end of this quarter. Unfortunately, while Intel themselves have stayed quiet about this, their partners have not and from the mouths of major PC OEM execs, this shortage might last a couple more quarters, possibly even longer if they don’t sort out the issue in manufacturing the CPUs.

Intel CPU Shortages Are Here To Stay, Says Major PC OEM, Execs

The Intel CPU shortage was originally reported to be over by the end of summer, as we are into fall here, the shortage remains intact. Alex Cho, president of HP’s Personal Systems Business, stated to The Register in an interview that the shortages are affecting all sectors of Intel’s CPU manufacturing and that all of their products will be affected and not specifically just processors.

With the shortage being kept on the quiet by Intel themselves the news is coming from outside sources like Steve Brazier, CEO at Canalys, stated that if its a problem in architecture of the CPU itself, the timing on when the shortage will be done can’t be figured out. If its just manufacturing issues (something Intel should’ve already gotten solved by now) It could be done any day now. But with no word from Intel themselves, the timing is up in the air at best.

Supply chain sources are saying that Intel is moving most factories away from manufacturing 14nm processors and are instead focusing on the 10nm and the 7nm for the more high-end Xeon chips for servers and cloud computing companies. This has definitively contributed to the continuation of the shortage, The 10nm roll-out delay has led to many manufacturing plants to be more out of commission.

This is a huge plus for AMD as they now have the chance to sweep more customers out from under Intel ( while AMD had their own supply issues at launch now that the dust has settled AMD is in a very good position). AMD has since gotten better at producing CPU with little or no issues, Because of this many consumers and clients are switching AMD seeing as their CPUs offer more value, more cores, a modern feature set and the most important fact, that their CPUs are in stock.
