Karen Walker To Join Intel As Chief Marketing Officer

One of my sources very close to CISCO just gave me quite the scoop: Karen Walker, formerly Chief Marketing Officer at CISCO has tendered her resignation at the company and will be joining Intel as the new CMO – a decision that is going to be announced very shortly (I am guessing within the next week or so). I expect to have a very fast validation time on this story as opposed to the last one.

Intel continues hiring spree: scoops Cisco’s Karen Walker as Chief Marketing Officer

Karen Walker is a marketing veteran and was in the Forbes’ Most Influential CMOs for 2017 and 2018. She has previously served as Vice President of Marketing, Americas for HP and was with the company for 8 years before moving on to CISCO as the Global Vice President of Marketing – where she spent her last 11 years or so.  Considering her experience in marketing with HP and CISCO, she should have both retail and enterprise marketing down pat.

Her about-me page on LinkedIn says the following:

Karen Walker is the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Cisco. Walker and her team are responsible for building and strengthening Cisco’s brand, supporting growth strategies, cultivating opportunities in new and existing markets, and increasing demand for Cisco’s solutions globally.

Since becoming CMO in 2015, Karen has completely transformed the Marketing function at Cisco to become the leader in real-time, personalized marketing. She has invested heavily in the newest marketing technologies to build a multi-award-winning technology stack. She has led the organization as Cisco’s brand value increased 16% in the past 3 years to $34.6B dollars, ranking #15 in the world according to Interbrand (2018).

Walker is a recognized industry authority on both technology and marketing topics, frequently participating in industry panels and keynotes. For three years in a row, Karen was recognized by Forbes as one of the World’s Most Influential CMOs, currently ranked in the Top 10 globally. She is a board member of the Association of National Advertisers and is a strong supporter of the #SeeHer movement – an effort set forth by the ANA to accurately portray all women and girls in the media by 2020. This aligns with her passion for supporting and encouraging women in STEM. Other passions, both professional and personal, include interior design, bio-technology, soccer, and educating the next wave of marketers.

Walker holds a Bachelor of Science degree with joint Honors in Chemistry and Business Studies from Loughborough University in England and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Sunderland in 2018.

Intel has already added a ton of names to its roster and all eyes are on it as it ramps up to Xe launch. With so many names under its belt, the time for it to deliver on its promises (late 2020 for the entry-level parts/2021 for high end) is just a year away.

This is a developing story and be may be updated intermittently.
