PlayStation 5 Pre-orders Are Up at MediaMarkt Sweden for Roughly $1050USD

Sony has yet to officially unveil its next-gen console, but PlayStation 5 pre-orders are already up at MediaMarkt Sweden.

As picked up by German media outlet PC Games Hardware.de, those interested can pre-order Sony’s next-gen console for 9999,- SEK ($1050USD/€950 Euro). Further details on the console are absent, although the listing does include some rumored hardware specs. As expected, a release date hasn’t been mentioned either.

Based on the pricing, it’s likely that the retailer merely uploaded a placeholder page for Sony’s next-gen console, as earlier this year, Sony’s Mark Cerny said that the price of the console “will be appealing in light of its advanced feature set”.  Advances features or not, not many gamers will be willig to pay more than $1000.00 USD for a home console.

The PlayStation 5 won’t be a simple upgrade over Sony’s PS4, as revealed by Wired in an exclusive interview with Cerny back in April of this year. “The CPU is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line and contains eight cores of the company’s new 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture”, the article reads. “The GPU, a custom variant of Radeon’s Navi family, will support ray tracing, a technique that models the travel of light to simulate complex interactions in 3D environments.”

In addition to a new CPU and GPU, Sony’s upcoming will also offer “a true game changer” – a custom SSD that reduces loading times to an absolute minimum.

As always we will keep you updated when we learn more about Sony’s next-gen console.
