Zelda Link’s Awakening Chamber Dungeon Mode Started As A Zelda Maker Idea

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening Chamber Dungeon mode was inspired by a Zelda Maker idea the team worked on, the series producer confirmed.

Speaking with IGN, Eiji Aonuma confirmed that he talked with Shigeru Miyamoto about creating a The Legend of Zelda Maker game in the style of Super Mario Maker. Aonuma pointed out that giving total freedom like in the Mario Maker games would have been complicated, so the team experimented with a more straightforward style which involved players just arranging rooms with puzzles already in it to create dungeons. Due to the room concept, this Zelda Maker idea could only be implemented in a top-down Zelda game, and so it has been developed as the Chamber Dungeon Mode in Zelda Link’s Awakening.

So we gave some thought into a more approachable style of play where you have to think about how to arrange parts that already have a solution to create a single dungeon, instead of allowing players to create complex arrangements like in Super Mario Maker 2, and that’s how we created the Chamber Dungeons for this game.

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening is an excellent remake that is extremely faithful to the original GameBoy game, introducing some improvements that make the experience even more enjoyable.

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening looks gorgeous, sounds beautiful, and tells a twee and compelling tale. While the game can be played through in around ten hours if you know what you’re doing in advance, new players will find a lengthy and engaging Zelda game to love. Whether it’s your first time playing Link’s Awakening or your dozenth, you will still find a gripping Switch game that you’ll remember for another twenty years.

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening is now available on Nintendo Switch worldwide.
